If the future is electric, then the effort to save our internal-combustion classics needs to start now. Crate that chunk of cast iron or aluminum and shops like Lunaz will replace it with a zero-emissions drivetrain that outperforms the original equipment while keeping those beautiful lines perfectly intact. While companies like Jaguar and Aston Martin offer a similar service, Lunaz is the brainchild of David Lorenz, whose experience with his own classic car lead to the founding of Lunaz. The first two projects from the shop are a 1953 Jaguar XK120 and 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V — the epitome of British motoring. Each car has a battery pack under the hood and one under the truck floor, with the Jaguar getting an 80 kWh unit and the Rolls a 120 kWh one. In the Jaguar, Lunaz’s in-house design powers two electric motors that make 375 horsepower and a stump-pulling 516 lb-ft of torque. Specs for the Phantom haven’t been released. If you’re ready for the past to meet the future, Lunaz will start reserving build slots starting in November of this year.
